What is your absolute best trading style or strategy for XAUUSD (Gold)?

general-discussion

Hello YoForex Community,

I am looking to optimize my approach specifically for trading XAUUSD (Gold), and I wanted to get the community's perspective on which trading style yields the most consistent results for this specific asset.

Gold is notoriously volatile, highly liquid, and reacts aggressively to macroeconomic news, geopolitical events, and US Dollar fluctuations. Because of its unique personality, a strategy that works perfectly on EURUSD can easily wipe out an account on Gold.

I’ve been experimenting with a few different approaches, but I’d love to know what has historically worked best for you:

1. Scalping (M1 - M5 Timeframes)

• Taking advantage of Gold's high intra-day volatility.

• Using indicators like Bollinger Bands or Stochastic oscillators to capture quick 10–30 pip moves.

• The downside: High spread costs and intense mental fatigue.

2. Day Trading / Intraday Swing (M15 - H1 Timeframes)

• Waiting for London or New York session opens to catch the daily volume expansion.

• Trading structural breakouts or key support/resistance retests.

• The downside: Dealing with violent fakeouts and stop-hunts before the real move happens.

3. Algorithmic / EA Trading

• Deploying automated systems (like grid, martingale, or trend-following EAs).

• The downside: Gold's massive, unextended trends can completely break traditional grid or mean-reversion EAs if risk management isn't perfectly calibrated.

💬 My Questions to the Community:

1. What timeframe and trading style do you find the most reliable for XAUUSD?

2. Do you rely purely on technical analysis (price action/indicators), or do you heavily factor in fundamental catalysts (DXY, interest rates, inflation numbers)?

3. What is your golden rule for risk management when trading Gold?

Looking forward to reading your insights and learning from your experiences!
