Introduction

Sleet Gold Breakout EA is an automated MT5 system built for XAUUSD that trades the breakout of gold's Asian-session range at the London open. It measures the overnight high and low, filters out days where the range is too small or too large compared with daily ATR, and places breakout orders on both sides with OCO logic. Every trade has an ATR-based stop loss, a 2R take profit and percentage-based position sizing. There is no grid, no martingale and no averaging – one controlled trade per day.

• Asian-session range breakout with configurable window (default 00:00 – 08:00 server time)
• Range-size filter against daily ATR to skip dead and overextended days
• Buy Stop above / Sell Stop below the range with automatic OCO cancellation
• ATR-based stop loss (tighter of range or 1.5× ATR) with 2R take profit
• 50% partial close at 1R, breakeven at 1R and ATR trailing stop from 1.5R
• Risk-per-trade lot sizing plus a daily loss cap that halts trading for the day
• Max-spread filter and high-impact news filter using the MT5 economic calendar
• End-of-day close, Friday close and unfilled-order cleanup – no weekend gaps

Advantages

Disadvantages

• Breakout systems have losing streaks during choppy, range-bound weeks
• False breakouts can trigger the stop before the real move starts
• Session times must be adjusted if your broker is not on GMT+2/+3
• Results depend on spread and execution – high-spread accounts perform worse
• The news filter cannot run in the Strategy Tester, so backtests include news days
• Designed for gold only; not optimised for other symbols
