XAUUSD Algo Strategy

Hi everyone! 👋

This is my first post here, and I’m currently exploring algorithmic trading strategies for XAUUSD (Gold), particularly strategies that can be converted into an Expert Advisor (EA) and properly backtested on MT5.

I’m interested in understanding how other traders approach systematic Gold trading. XAUUSD can be quite interesting because of its volatility, liquidity, and tendency to make significant moves around key market levels and major sessions.

At the moment, I’m particularly interested in strategies involving things like:

• Previous day high/low liquidity sweeps
• Liquidity grabs and stop hunts
• Market structure and break of structure
• London and New York session behavior
• Risk-to-reward based entries
• Automated SL/TP and position management
• Proper backtesting and optimization without overfitting

My main goal is not simply to find a strategy that looks profitable on historical data, but to understand whether the underlying market behavior is robust enough to potentially work in different market conditions.

I’d love to hear from traders who have experience with XAUUSD EAs, liquidity-based strategies, or systematic trading.

What setups have you found particularly interesting or reliable on Gold? And what are the biggest mistakes you’ve encountered when turning a discretionary strategy into an EA?
